Diversity and Inclusion in Education Overview

This research cluster is concerned with issues of inequity and social justice at school, higher education, and initial teacher education levels, relating to social class, ethnicity, gender, sexualities, and disability/Special Educational Needs.

Cluster members are currently engaged in a range of research projects on topics including Diversity in Initial Teacher Education (DITE) (funded by the Irish Research Council), Widening Participation in Higher Education, and Teacher Collaboration in a Special Educational Needs context.

Recent projects in this cluster have also included research on Boys, Masculinities, Men Teachers, and Mentorship, Citizenship and Worldmindedness, Early Focus in Supporting School Engagement in a Disadvantaged Area, and an evaluation of the Wizard of Words (WoW), a paired literacy improvement programme funded by Barnardos.

Research in this cluster has impacted national and international policy, practice and research in the areas of diversity, inclusion and widening participation.
