Research Interests

My research interests lie in the field of natural products and medicinal chemistry. I use organic synthesis and ligand-based drug design to develop natural products with promising biological activity into suitable lead candidates for drug development.

Natural products are excellent starting points for drug discovery. Part of my research involves designing versatile synthetic routes to natural products with promising biological activity, with the purpose of synthesising analogues. These analogues are then used to study structure-activity relationships, and optimise activity and pharmacokinetic properties.
 

I am also interested in investigating extracts that are used therapeutically with no knowledge of chemical composition as a source of novel lead compounds, for example medicinal plants used as antibiotics in fish farming.
